Module 1
The Writer’s Eye
Concrete detail and inference. Each module is a complete 60-minute workshop and may be used independently.
Ten independent, cold-teachable workshops. Every module starts with an original mentor microtext, asks learners to explain how a feature shapes meaning, and then supports a deliberate writing and revision choice.
This is the Years 7–8 reference-module edition. A teacher can select one workshop at the point of need or run all ten as a sequence. It is not the Years 9–10 course with younger labels. The Years 9–10 Writer’s Toolkit is a distinct continuation with longer, more discipline-specific writing.
Each module supplies a 60-minute run, original practice text, learner page, differentiation, cultural-authority boundary, exact curriculum evidence, and an observable revision record.

Te Mātaiaho · English · Phase 3 · Text Studies · Practices
How it is taught: every module makes analysis visible before imitation: learners identify a feature in the supplied mentor microtext, explain its effect, and then adapt it in writing.
Honest limit: the active Phase 3 English corpus currently contains no writing-production statement. This offering does not invent one and does not borrow Phase 4 wording to fill the gap.
The general workshops use original Te Kete Ako practice texts. Waiata, karakia, haka, whakataukī, pūrākau, whaikōrero, whakapapa, iwi communication, and local stories are not generic technique banks. A named published or locally held text may be added only with its source, context, and appropriate authority. Learners are never required to disclose identity or imitate a culturally held form.
The sequence uses Lev Vygotsky’s scaffold-and-release pattern: each workshop moves from a supplied mentor microtext to guided analysis, independent adaptation, and reflection. Its visible revision trail also reflects John Hattie’s emphasis on feedback that tells a learner what to change next, while the choice-preserving evidence modes keep participation separate from public performance.
Module 10 may be omitted when the toolkit is used only for targeted support.
