The test of a method is a stranger. Not whether you can follow it — whether someone who has never seen your experiment can.
Two minutes: write instructions for making a cup of tea in five steps. Then read them as if you knew nothing about tea. How much water? How hot? How long? Every gap you find is the same kind of gap a marker finds in a method.
📖 Activity 1: Investigation Planning & Practical Execution (25 mins)
Write it (13 min). Draft your method as numbered steps. Every step needs a quantity, a piece of equipment, and where relevant a time. Include the safety steps in sequence, not as an afterthought at the bottom.
Swap and run it on paper (12 min). Exchange methods with another pair. Walk through theirs step by step and stop at the first instruction you cannot follow exactly. Report back that one step. Fix yours before you submit — the first stopping point is worth more than a page of general feedback.
📝 Activity 2: Level 1 Biology Investigation Log & Merit/Excellence Scaffolding (20 mins)
Report — Section 3. Submit: (1) your numbered method with quantities, equipment and timings; (2) the stopping point another pair found and your rewrite of that step; (3) your equipment list with a one-line justification for any choice where a more or less precise option existed.
