A position is not a preference. "I think gene drives are bad" is a preference. It becomes a position when it names its evidence, its values, and the strongest objection it survives.
Two minutes: write your current view in one sentence, then underneath write the best argument against it that you can construct honestly. If you struggle to write the second, your view is not yet a position.
📖 Activity 1: Biological Evidence & Ethical Analysis (25 mins)
Build it in three parts (15 min). Write your position with evidence, values and the objection you take most seriously. State explicitly which of the Lesson 5 frameworks you are reasoning from and why you chose it — an unstated framework reads as bias.
Separate personal from societal (10 min). State what you would do, and separately what you think policy should be. These can legitimately differ; say why yours do or do not, and what would have to be true for you to change your mind.
📝 Activity 2: Level 3 Biology (Internal) Report Drafting & Merit/Excellence Scaffolding (20 mins)
Report — Section 8. Submit: (1) your position with evidence, values and framework named; (2) the strongest objection and your reasoned answer to it; (3) your personal and societal positions stated separately, with the conditions under which you would revise.
