🧠 1. Before Viewing (Activate & Predict)

How do forces, motion graphs, mass, acceleration, and energy link together to describe everything from a roller coaster to an America's Cup hydrofoil yacht?

  • Map: as you watch, create a concept map connecting: force types → balanced/unbalanced → motion → graphs → mass/weight → friction → pressure → work.
  • Identify: which topic from this unit does the video explain most clearly? Which do you still need to practise?
  • Summarise: write 3–5 sentences that a Year 9 student would understand, explaining how the forces unit fits together.

📖 Activity 1: Chain the Formulas, Then Build Something

Multi-step problems (13 min). Work three problems that each need two or more equations chained — a falling object where you find the weight, then the work done, then the kinetic energy at the bottom. Show every stage. The marks live in the chain, not in the final number.

Design challenge (12 min). Design something that lets a fragile object survive a 2 m drop. Then justify it as physics: which force are you reducing, over what time or what area, and which equation from your list backs the choice?

📝 Activity 2: Year 10 Physics Worksheet & Explanation Scaffolding (20 mins)

Logbook Capstone. Record: (1) three multi-step solutions with every stage shown; (2) your design with a labelled diagram and its physics justification; (3) your marked formula list from the Do Now, updated to show which gaps you closed today and which are still open — an honest list is more useful to you than a full one.
