Rewrite every vague word with a specific one: whose land? Which iwi? How many people? When? What happened?
Police enforced the law. The occupiers were removed from Crown-owned land after 506 days.
Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei were removed from their ancestral whenua by police and army after 506 days of peaceful occupation.
Both descriptions are true. Hold them side by side without collapsing one into the other. Write two sentences explaining how both can be true at once — and what that tells you about the difference between what is legal and what is just.
In 1977 the Ōrākei claim went to the Waitangi Tribunal and was rejected. In 1987, under extended jurisdiction, the same claim succeeded. Nothing about the land's history changed between those dates.
