English
Kia ora whānau,
This week our readers are practising r-controlled vowels (ar, or, er, ir, ur) and chunking longer words. We are following Aria and Hori as they guard the marae at night.
- Ask your child to read one paragraph from “Night Watch at the Marae”. Circle the r-controlled words you hear.
- Try the Word Builder game: choose a root word (port, struct, ora), then add prefixes or suffixes to make new words. Talk about their meanings together.
- Encourage quick “Stop • Think • Fix” checks when reading at home – what does the word mean? Does it look right?
Ngā mihi for sharing stories from home. Your support helps fluency grow faster.
- Pānuitia tētahi whiti o “Night Watch at the Marae”. Tohua ngā kupu e rangona ai te oro r.
- Tākaro ki te kēmu Kaihanga Kupu: tīpakohia tētahi pakiaka (port, struct, ora), kātahi ka tapiri mai he kupu tīmatanga, he tūmuri rānei kia hangaia he kupu hou. Kōrerotia te tikanga.
- Whakamahia ngā kupu tohutohu “Tū • Whakaaro • Whakatika” i te kāinga – he aha te tikanga? He tika te āhua o te kupu?
Ngā mihi mō te tautoko. Mā te mahi ngātahi ka tere ake te whanake o te rere kōrero.
Home Challenge
Create a “Night Watch” log at home. Each evening, write or draw one observation that includes an r-controlled word (e.g., “The stars sparkle over the farm”). Bring the log to kura on Friday to share with the class.
