Go through your notes and find one quotation you cannot fully cite. No page number, no document reference, or you are no longer certain where it came from.
You have just found the point where your evidence bank fails. Every historian has this moment; the difference is whether they find it now or the night before submission.
📖 Activity 1: Build the Bank, Then Test It
Sort by argument, not by date (13 min). Set up your evidence bank with one column per inquiry sub-question. File each piece of evidence under the argument it serves. Anything that fits nowhere is either a new sub-question or material you do not need — decide which, do not leave it floating.
Cite it properly (12 min). Give every extract a full citation in one consistent convention. Then swap with a partner: they pick two entries and try to find your source from your citation alone. If they cannot, the citation has failed, and finding that out now is the entire point.
📝 Activity 2: Level 3 History Portfolio Task & Merit/Excellence Scaffolding (20 mins)
Portfolio Section 5. Submit: (1) your thematic evidence bank organised by sub-question; (2) at least eight extracts with complete citations in one convention; (3) a note on which sub-question currently has the thinnest evidence, and where you will look next.
