Teacher-only planning note

This page is for kaiako. The reflection sheet is strongest when students are given time, silence, and real permission to be specific rather than perform gratitude on demand.

A mātauranga Māori lens matters because reflection sits within relationship, responsibility, and the ongoing story of people and place rather than being a detached self-assessment exercise.

Strong fit

Students use language to reflect on learning, describe what helped, and explain what they might do differently next time.

How this handout aligns

The prompts help students connect noticing, feeling, and next steps in a way that produces meaningful reflective evidence.

EnglishCommunication for learningReflection

Most useful when students can respond using a mix of spoken, written, and visual forms.

Strong fit

Students discuss ideas, listen carefully, and respond to others with thought and care.

How to use this resource

Invite pair or circle sharing after the writing window so discussion builds on reflection rather than replacing it.

DiscussionListeningCareful response

This is especially useful for classes building reflective talk routines.

Bridge fit

Students consider what ongoing responsibility might look like after participation in a local issue.

Kaiako safeguard

Keep the final question open enough for genuine next steps, not just a teacher-pleasing promise.

AgencyResponsibilityLocal action

The reflection sheet is strongest when it points forward as well as back.
